Wenger left gutted but still defiant
Arsenal 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Arsene Wenger insisted he can still go out on the high of a Europa League triumph - and with it Champions League football for next season - despite the setback of a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the semi-final at the Emirates last night.
Wenger will depart as Gunners manager at the end of the season after almost 22 years in charge and if his finale is to be a Europa League decider in Lyon next month his side will have to do it the hard way after surrendering a well-deserved lead to draw against 10-man Atletico.
Alexandre Lacazette headed Arsenal in front before Antoine Griezmann's late equaliser.
Wenger said: "Of course it feels like an opportunity missed but we have to go there in a positive mood and qualify."
