Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is backing Artur Boruc after his costly mistakes against Spurs

Bournemouth 1-5 Tottenham

By Mark Bryans

Eddie Howe refused to blame goalkeeper Artur Boruc for Bournemouth's hammering at the hands of Tottenham.

Harry Kane returned to form for Spurs as he helped himself to a hat-trick in the 5-1 victory - with Boruc at fault for three of Tottenham's goals.

Matt Ritchie had fired Bournemouth into a first-minute lead before the Cherries' 35-year-old goalkeeper brought down Kane in the box, with the England striker levelling from the penalty spot.

Mousa Dembele then put the visitors ahead before Boruc dropped another clanger as he spilled an easy Kane cross that Erik Lamela tucked away.

Kane's second came from a sumptuous Christian Eriksen cross and his hat-trick was completed as Boruc again failed to collect an effort and the 22-year-old was on hand to turn home.

Howe, however, said his team as a whole have to take the responsibility for the loss.

"They were self-inflicted, that's evident," he said of Tottenham's goals. "There won't be fingers pointed. We take collective responsibility. But there is a need going forward that we can't keep giving goals away.

"(Boruc) is strong mentally and resolute when it comes to errors.

"He's seen it and done it. There's a need for the team to eradicate those errors and our goalkeepers rediscover their form."

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was delighted to see Kane return to goalscoring form.

"I'm very pleased for Harry," he said. "I never had any doubts, but it was a very important hat-trick for him. He'll become a better player after such a tough period."
