Brighton v Newcastle - story of the match

Tomer Hemed's hooked strike denied Newcastle the chance to move fourth in the Premier League as Brighton prevailed 1-0 at the Amex Stadium.

Hemed's second Premier League goal sealed the Seagulls' triumph as boss Chris Hughton finally got the better of former club Newcastle.

Brighton moved 13th in the table with their second win of the campaign, hitting back after losing at Bournemouth in first the Premier League then the Carabao Cup.

Hemed. The Israel forward's clinical finish proved the difference between the two sides on a day of precious few gilt-edged opportunities. Where Joselu failed with Newcastle's clear opening, Hemed did not.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Hemed hooked home after Dale Stephens headed down a smart Brighton free-kick, firing into the roof of the net and leaving Rob Elliot helpless.

STAT OF THE DAY

Brighton manager Hughton secured his first win against old club Newcastle at the seventh time of asking.
