Controversies caused by Yaya Toure's agent

Yaya Toure has apologised on behalf of his agent for the controversial comments which led to his exclusion from the Manchester City team.

Manager Pep Guardiola has refused to pick the midfielder since Dimitri Seluk claimed Toure had been "humiliated" following his omission from the club's Champions League squad early in September.

It is not the first time the player's agent has spoken out regarding Toure, and here Press Association Sport looks at some of the incidents.

Toure's agent demanded that the midfielder sign a new contract at City by a certain deadline and threatened his client's exit in strong terms, only for the deadline to pass. Toure, with little apparent complaint, signed a new four-year deal a month later. At the time, Toure said: "I want to continue winning titles and trophies and continue to make history. I have enjoyed all of my time here and can't wait for the next chapter." Seluk also made similar claims during Toure's spell at Barcelona.

Ahead of Toure's new contract, Seluk also complained that the player was unhappy there were not enough posters of him around the Etihad Stadium and not enough of his shirts on show in the club shop. He told The Sun: " Around the stadium while there are pictures of every player of City commemorating their recent successes there is not a single one of Yaya. At the club shop you can find shirts to buy with the names of every player, but not Yaya's."

Seluk claimed the midfielder could leave the City in summer 2014 because he felt he had been treated disrespectfully. One of his chief complaints was that no-one from the club wished Toure happy birthday when he turned 31 during the team's post-season trip to Abu Dhabi. That grievance was soon exposed as untrue and Toure joked about it before dismissing any suggestion he wanted to leave. The Ivory Coast international tweeted at the time: "Thanks for all the birthday messages today. Card from City just arrived... Must have got lost in the post. Haha. Jokes aside. Please do not take words that do not come out of MY mouth seriously. Judge my commitment to @MCFC by my performances.''

LEFT OUT IN THE COLD, September 2016

Seluk accused City manager Pep Guardiola of "humiliating" Toure following the player's omission from the club's Champions League squad early in September. Guardiola insisted Seluk should apologise before he would consider 33-year-old Toure for selection again. Toure has played just once for City this season, against Steaua Bucharest in August. When Guardiola subsequently cited Seluk's comments as the reason for Toure's continued absence and called for an apology, Seluk stood by his words and strengthened his attack on the manager. Referring to other matters involving Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany, Seluk said Guardiola was treating players "like dogs".
