Dalglish issues title challenge to Liverpool

By Steven Beacom

Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish believes Liverpool must start beating Manchester United to have a chance of winning the title.

Dalglish was the manager of Liverpool the last time they claimed the championship back in 1990 but since then United have largely dominated the domestic scene and are now just one behind the Liverpool record of 18 titles.

Ahead of tomorrow’s game, Dalglish said: “This year Liverpool have a real opportunity.

“They have to beat the clubs in and around them and against Manchester United at Anfield they have a great opportunity to do it.

“You have to win games against the other top three.

“So far they have seven points out of nine which is a good return and if they beat United at Anfield it would be a great boost.”

Dalglish of course famously wore the number seven shirt.

Republic of Ireland skipper Robbie Keane is the man in possession now and he will be desperate to score his first goal for Liverpool tomorrow.

Kopites would tell him there would be no better time to do it. He could be the main man for the home side if Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres fail to overcome injuries to play.
