Eagles swoop for United's Fosu-Mensah on loan deal

By Mark Mann-Bryans

Crystal Palace have announced the season-long loan signing of Manchester United's Holland Under-21 international defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah. The 19-year-old will link up with new Eagles boss and compatriot Frank de Boer ahead of the new Premier League season, Palace starting out at home to Huddersfield tomorrow.

Fosu-Mensah is highly regarded by United manager Jose Mourinho and was handed a new contract in October.

The former Ajax youngster has made 21 senior appearances for the Red Devils.

Fosu-Mensah said: "I still have a lot to learn and therefore getting the opportunity to play more games on a regular basis will help my development."

De Boer added: "Timothy is a player who has great pace and incredible physical ability.

"In today's game you need players with strength and speed and he is a player who can also play in midfield.

"I am seeing him in our system as a right centre back but he can also play full back in a 4-3-3."
