Hughton targets icing on cake as Brighton & Hove Albion celebrate promotion to Premier League

By Conor McLaughlin

Northern Ireland midfielder Oliver Norwood will be playing Premier League football with Brighton & Hove Albion next season after they achieved promotion from the Championship yesterday.

The Seagulls' 2-1 victory over Wigan Athletic all but guaranteed their elevation, with official confirmation coming when Huddersfield Town were held by Derby County later in the day.

After the game Brighton manager Chris Hughton challenged his side to finish the season on a high and secure the league title.

"It's a wonderful achievement and there's so many people that I'm absolutely delighted for, certainly the chairman," said Hughton. "I expected us to be right up there challenging and if you said to me at some stage we'd be top of the division, I would have thought we'd have developed well and learned a lot from last season.

"I knew we had a group of lads that were capable of doing it, but being capable of doing it and actually doing it are two different things.

"I'm as excited as anybody, but I have to have that little bit of sensibility.

"If we're able to win the game on Friday (against Norwich), that would be the ultimate, not only promotion but it would see us winning the Championship and that's got to be the target now."
