Leicester v Newcastle - Player Ratings

Kasper Schmeichel: Was barely forced into action. 6/10

Danny Simpson: Struggled on occasion against Moussa Sissoko but was fortunate his former Magpies team-mate kept making wrong decisions in the final third. 5

Wes Morgan: Relatively solid after a poor back-pass almost let in Sissoko straight from kick-off. 7

Robert Huth: A towering presence and a threat from set-pieces. 7

Christian Fuchs: Had a quiet night until Andros Townsend's introduction and given the runaround thereafter. 6

Riyad Mahrez: Another pillar of Leicester's success this season but faded after an instrumental opening half. 7

N'Golo Kante: The bargain-buy of last summer proved why he has been so vital to Leicester's title challenge by snuffing out several Newcastle attacks. 8

Danny Drinkwater: A bustling performance at the heart of Leicester's midfield, keeping things tight alongside Kante. 8

Marc Albrighton: Should have doubled Leicester's lead in the first half but shot wide. 6

Shinji Okazaki: Took his goal fantastically well. 7

Jamie Vardy: Uncharacteristically quiet night for this season's joint Premier League top-scorer. 5

Jeff Schlupp (on for Okazaki, 65 mins): Made some decent runs. 6

Leonardo Ulloa (on for Albrighton, 76 mins): Was kept quiet. 5

Rob Elliot: No chance with the goal but imposed himself when crosses were put into the box. 6

Daryl Janmaat: Good first-half challenge to snuff out the danger from Vardy and was steady throughout. 6

Steven Taylor: Along with centre-back partner Jamaal Lascelles, kept Vardy quiet. 6

Jamaal Lascelles: Probably should have been closer to Okazaki for Leicester's goal - although it may not have made much of a difference. 6

Jack Colback: Moved to left-back in the absence of Paul Dummett and may be ruing his versatility after being given the runaround by Mahrez. 5

Vurnon Anita: Restored to the starting line-up but did not offer the back four much protection and was withdrawn as Newcastle went in search of an equaliser. 5

Jonjo Shelvey: Another industrious performance from Newcastle's stand-in captain. 6

Moussa Sissoko: Denied Aleksandar Mitrovic a clear-cut chance by colliding with his team-mate and a woeful pass saw another opportunity go begging. Wasteful in possession to boot. 4

Ayoze Perez: The eager Spaniard was typically busy and at least tested Schmeichel with Newcastle's only shot on target in the first half. 6

Georginio Wijnaldum: Has developed a reputation for being anonymous when Newcastle are on the road. Performances like this one only strengthen that view. 5

Aleksandar Mitrovic: Plenty of endeavour from the Serbian but little end product. 5

Andros Townsend (on for Anita, 56 mins): Gave Newcastle a bit of impetus going forward. 6

Siem de Jong (on for Perez, 71 mins): Spurned a glorious chance by mis-kicking his first-time shot. 5

Seydou Doumbia (on for Shelvey, 87 mins): No opportunity to make an impression. 5
