Liverpool agree deal to sign Naby Keita after reported Barcelona interest in RB Leipzig midfielder
Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Naby Keita from Red Bull Leipzig.
The midfielder will join the club next summer when his release clasue in his current contract kicks in. It is reported that Liverpool will pay a premium on the £48 million that Keita can leave Leipzig for after the current season. The Guinean will become a Reds player on July 1, 2018.
Keita has undergone a medical this morning. Barcelona had been reported to be chasing the 22 year-old as an alternative to Philippe Coutinho, who Liverpool are intent on holding onto despite the interests of the Catalan giants. But Liverpool have moved to ensure Keita isn't snatched from under their noses.
The move comes as Liverpool are reported to have made a bid to make Thomas Lemar their record transfer. Rumours also have the Reds closing in on a season-long loan deal for Bayern Munich's Renato Sanches, who would hold Keita's midfield berth until next summer's move.
