Liverpool bid for Dutch defender and target two promising whizz-kids: transfer rumours

Liverpool have been linked with three players leading up to the January window and there are also fresh Virgil van Dijk rumours (as always).

First of all, Liverpool have bid for a Dutch defender, according to reports. But no, not Van Dijk. SportWitness claim that Tuttosport have reported offers from the Reds and Atletico Madrid for Lazio's STEFAN DE VRIJ. The 25-year-old, valued at £30 million, has been told he can leave if a club meets Lazio's valuation, according to Radio Incontro Olympia.

The Reds are also, according to the Daily Star, in a bidding war for Mexican attacking sensation HIRVING LOZANO. The 22-year-old has scored 10 goals in 15 games since joining PSV during the summer. The report claims that the Reds have 'made contact' in relation to the player, possibly triggering an auction.

And Liverpool, along with Tottenham and Everton, are leading the chase for Sheffield United's DAVID BROOKS, according to the Mirror. The Blades are expecting a flurry of offers during the January window and the report says that all three clubs have been monitoring the 20-year-old through the first half of the season.

So what of VIRGIL VAN DIJK, we hear you ask? After reports in the Sunday World that Liverpool had 'made a breakthrough' in their pursuit of the defender, the Telegraph say that Manchester City are 'closing in' on his signature. And Spanish outlet Sport has even linked Barcelona with a move. It's anyone's guess, really.

Marouane Fellaini is reportedly ready to leave Manchester United after rejecting a new deal. According to the Express, the midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer, does not plan on extending his stay. The paper says the Belgium international has begun looking for a new team, and has already been approached with an offer from China.

Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi has reportedly agreed a new two-year deal at the club. The Sun says the 29-year-old centre-back has been rewarded for his solid performances this season, having started all but two of City's games across the Premier League and Champions League.

Tottenham are ready to join the race for both Everton midfielder Ross Barkley and Manchester United's Luke Shaw, the Express reports. The paper says Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring in reinforcements after his side slipped out of the top four.

Arsenal will go head to head with Chelsea in a £30 million battle for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, according to the Express. The paper says Chelsea have been tracking the 20-year-old for some time, with manager Antonio Conte keen for reinforcements along his front line, while Arsenal want him as an extra wide man after losing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer.

Player to watch

Ben Woodburn: Sunderland and Leeds United are looking to make a bid for the Liverpool youngster, according to the Mirror. The paper says Jurgen Klopp is prepared to allow the 18-year-old out on loan for the rest of the season to give him substantial playing time.
