Liverpool eye Argentina's rising star, Manchester United threaten Keita hijack and other transfer rumours
Liverpool are eyeing up Argentinian forward MAXI ROMERO, according to today's transfer rumours.
The 18 year-old currently plays for Vélez Sarsfield in the Argentine Primera Division and was said to be close to joining Arsenal two years ago. A cruciate ligament injury ended the London club's interest but now a move to the Premier League could be back on the cards.
World Football Index have reported that Liverpool have scouted Romero 'on a number of occasions' and could make their move this summer.
“He’s a powerful, explosive centre forward who’s killed it at club youth level,” Tom Robinson told worldfootballindex.com. “His stats don’t jump off the page but he’s been in a pretty terrible Vélez side, mainly playing second fiddle to experienced Mariano Pavone.
"Pavone has just moved to Estudiantes, so hopefully that should open up some game time for Romero. He’s still only 18, so time will tell as to how much the injury has affected him.”
Of course, the player would require a work permit to play for Liverpool but, like the club's Brazilian midfielder Allan, he could be signed and loaned out. Reports, however, suggest Romero is expected to feature for Argentina 'sooner rather than later', which would ease work permit concerns.
We could soon have another maxi on our books too ..a young chap by the name of maxi Romero ,apparently from under the noses of Arsenal #LFC— Grizz (@GrizzKhan) July 13, 2017
Meanwhile, Manchester United are keen to hijack Liverpool's high-profile pursuit of NABY KEITA, according to Football Whispers. Manchester City, Juventus and Inter Milan are also said to be keen, although the player is reported to still favour a move to Anfield.
Chelsea's search for a striker looks set to hit more problems, with the Daily Star reporting that they are ready to pull the plug on their pursuit of ALVARO MORATA.
The Blues appeared ready to pay £63million for the Real Madrid player, but the Stamford Bridge hierarchy have had second thoughts, leaving AC Milan as frontrunners for his signature.
Manchester United are enjoying a much better time of it in the transfer market and hope to tie up a £44million deal for Inter Milan's IVAN PERISIC, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Perisic is thought to be keen on a move to Old Trafford and hopes to get the deal done in time to join up with United for their tour of the United States.
Jose Mourinho looks like missing out on Tottenham's ERIC DIER but could be ready for one last-ditch attempt to get their man.
Spurs are holding firm in their desire to keep the England international, but the Daily Mirror claim that they are lining up a final offer of £60million.
The Sun are reporting that Crystal Palace are trying to sign Arsenal midfielder JACK WILSHERE on loan.
The Selhurst Park club are also closing in on Ajax defender JAIRO RIEDEWALD, who will cost around £8million, according to the Evening Standard.
