Derry City have signed a man once touted as the next Lionel Messi.
The club today announced that Gerardo Bruna has joined ahead of the 2019 League of Ireland season.
Bruna, 28, came through Real Madrid's Academy before switching to Liverpool, where he failed to make the breakthrough into the first team despite signing his first professional contract.
The midfielder did make his breakthrough into senior football when he moved to Blackpool in 2011 before returning to Spain to play for Huesca in Segunda B. Spells at Tranmere, Whitehawk and Accrington Stanley followed before Bruna moved to Ottowa Fury, where he played alongside former Derry favourite Shane McEleney.
The announcement of Bruna's arrival came on a busy day for Derry as the club also confirmed that Eoghan Stokes and Darren Cole have also joined, with Institute captain Michael McCrudden agreeing a pre-contract before his arrival in June.
Derry City's league season begins in just 10 days when they host UCD at the Brandywell.
