Liverpool matchwinner Lucas stays, insists Klopp

By Robert Jones

Delighted boss Jurgen Klopp insisted matchwinner Lucas Leiva would remain at Anfield beyond the current transfer window after the Brazilian's first goal since he scored in a Europa League tie against Steaua Bucharest in September 2010 saw off Plymouth in last night's FA Cup third round replay in Devon and set up a home foruth round tie with Wolves.

Lucas has been linked with a move away but Klopp said: "Lucas is a very valuable squad player. He's a great personality and a good player. He's a really wonderful guy. He is really important for us.

"We have been playing old against young each time after training and Luca is the top scorer of the old team so I am really surprised that he has not scored for so long but now he's back on track.

"From my point of view definitely yes, I think yes he is staying, but what is definitely in this business? We have kind of an agreement so I actually would say yes."
