Manchester United boss targets defensive trio while Liverpool three edge closer to exit: transfer rumours
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is keen on three defensive signing, according to today's transfer rumours.
First up is the Metro's claim that Mourinho is ready to shell out £20 million for Northern Ireland defender JONNY EVANS, who turned 30 on Wednesday. The report claims that West Brom have tabled a £100,000 a week deal to keep him at the club but could listen to offers if he opts not to put pen to paper.
West Brom boss Alan Pardew has confirmed that no bids have yet arrived at the Hawthorns: “It’s always the same answer about Jonny. It’s about the bid coming first, because there’s so much speculation,” he said. “We need to see a bid, and we haven’t seen a bid. All I can report is the facts. Without a bid, Jonny stays here.”
Next up, Mourinho wants to sign Tottenham's DANNY ROSE, but is facing resistance from the board, according to the Daily Mail. Mourinho is said to see the 27-year-old as a good fit for the team, though the executives are reportedly still putting their confidence in Luke Shaw, who has fallen out of favour with Mourinho after a bad run of form and injury issues.
And there is also a report that Napoli defender FAOUZI GHOULAM is on the verge of a move to Old Trafford. Spanish outlet Sport, via the Express, claim that a deal is close for the 26-year-old Algerian full-back. The Guardian report that United are willing to part with £53 million to secure his services.
Meanwhile, PHILLIPE COUTINHO'S Liverpool exit is reportedly moving closer with the Daily Star citing Don Balon claims that Barcelona will announce his signature on Monday. He may not be the only player close to finalising a move away from Anfield with midfielder EMRE CAN in 'advanced talks' with Juventus according to Sky. The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is free to talk to other clubs.
And also potentially set to leave the club is forward DANIEL STURRIDGE. Turkish outlet Fanatik have held 'first negotiations' over the player and will step up their approach after Everton agreed a £27 million deal to sign their Turkish international forward CENK TOSUN. Everton are hopeful of signing Cenk Tosun in time for Friday evening's FA Cup third-round clash against the Reds.
Players to watch
Inter Milan are keeping a close eye on Juan Mata and any possible developments in his contract with Manchester United, according to the Mirror. The 29-year-old's contract is due to expire at the end of the season and, if United do not trigger a one-year extension, the Italian club look poised to make a move for the attacking midfielder.
Manchester United, meanwhile, have their own eye on PSG winger Lucas Moura, the Sun says. Mourinho is hopeful of agreeing a loan deal for the 25-year-old, who is yet to make the starting XI this season for the Ligue 1 leaders. However, it is thought PSG will only go ahead with any possible move if it leads to a permanent £40million deal next summer, the paper reports.
