Manchester United close in on THREE top prospects while Spurs set to swoop for striker: Premier League transfer rumours
Manchester United are looking to the future with an influx of young talent, according to the latest transfer rumours.
The Old Trafford club have been linked to three up-and-coming young stars.
First, United could bolster their attacking options this month with the signing of PSV winger Steven Bergwijn. The Mirror claim that the 21-year-old has been watched by the club's scouts during a season in which he has netted ten goals. Bergwijn has earned three senior caps for the Netherlands, having made his debut in October. Torino and Bordeaux were both said to have had bids rejected last summer with the player happy to stay but could a club the size of United turn his head?
United are also keen to rival Liverpool for the signing of a Portuguese wonderkid, according to the Record. Benfica's attacking midfielder Joao Felix was reportedly the subject of a €70m bid from Liverpool last week but United are now said to be considering a move for the 19-year-old, who has made only five starts in the Primeira Liga but has already has a reported €120m release clause in his contract.
They're also going to have to fight off competition from Chelsea if they're to sign Bristol City's highly-rated teenage attacker. Antoine Semenyo is currently on loan at League Two side Newport County and, with six goals this term, is attracting attention, according to Team Talk. United were reported to be scouting the player as far back as September but will have to beat Chelsea to his signature, with City reported to be after a £2m fee.
Meanwhile, Paul Scholes is set to be named the new manager of Oldham, the Daily Mail says. The Latics dismissed Frankie Bunn last month after six months in charge at Boundary Park.
Tottenham are struggling for options in attack, with Dele Alli and Harry Kane injured and Son Heung-min away on Asian Cup duty so former Liverpool striker Andy Carroll may be the answer, according to The Sun. The West Ham forward is a free agent in the summer and could be snapped up for £2million, the paper said.
Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain is set to finalise his loan move to Chelsea this week, the Daily Express says.
Former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Ashley Cole may be set for a move to Derby where he will reunite with his old team-mate Frank Lampard, the Daily Mirror says. Ex-England left-back Cole, 38, most recently played for the LA Galaxy and was released at the end of the 2018 season.
Frenkie de Jong continues to be subject of keen interest, with the Daily Mail reporting Barcelona and Paris St Germain are both looking to convince the Ajax midfielder to sign for them.
