Manchester United target FOUR top class defenders as Pogba set for move away: Premier League transfer rumours

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is desperate to bolster his defensive options, according to the latest transfer rumours.

The Old Trafford club are said to be eyeing up four top talents to shore up their back line ahead of the new campaign.

The first is long-term target Toby Alderweireld, who the Express report has been slapped with a £60m price-tag. The Tottenham centre-half is out of contract next summer but with the White Hart Lane club boasting an option to trigger a 12-month extension, the situation is far from straight forward. United were odds-on to secure the services of the 25-year-old earlier this month but with the impasse continuing, other targets are coming into view.

The first of those is England World Cup star Harry Maguire. The Daily Post claim that Mourinho has urged Ed Woodward to sanction a £65m move for the 25-year-old Leicester defender. However, they face a fight for his services as his current club are willing to up his wages by £75,000 a week to keep him at the Kingpower Stadium.

United have also made a 'initial exploration' into the prospect of bringing in Germany centre-half Jerome Boateng, according to German outlet Kicker. Bayern Munich could let the 29-year-old leave for between £44.5m and £53.5m, with PSG also said to be interested.

United have also been linked with a move for Senegal centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, according to Calciomercato. Their report says Napoli have rejected a €100m bid from a Premier League club, with 'all pointers' suggesting it came from United, although Chelsea are also named as an interested party.

Meanwhile, Paul Pogba is set for a move back to his former club Juventus, according to the Daily Star. They report that Juve have 'won the race' to sign the French midfielder, who, they say, 'fell out' with Jose Mourinho last season. The story also cites reports that Pogba wants to link-up with former United ace Cristiano Ronaldo. Links to that move have been further boosted by reports that Juve are willing to sell Miralem Pjanic, leading to suggestions they are clearing the decks for Pogba's arrival.

Liverpool have been linked with a deal to sign World Cup star Ismaila Sarr, who shone for Senegal this summer. The 20-year-old Rennes winger is attracting interest from the Reds, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal, according to the Sun.

And at Chelsea, Juventus defender Daniele Rugani is set to arrive at Stamford Bridge, according to the London Evening Standard. They report the 23-year-old will be handed a four year deal worth £77,000 a week.
