Mike Arteta looks set to take over from Arsene Wenger as the new Arsenal manager after bookies suspended betting.
The former Arsenal midfielder, who is currently a coach at Man City under Pep Guardiola, has emerged as the favourite to get the job.
His appointment would be a gamble with the Spaniard not having any management experience.
Arsene Wenger took charge of Arsenal for the last time on Sunday with the Gunners beating Huddersfield with a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang goal.
A spokesperson for Betway said: “After heightened betting activity on Tuesday morning, running in line with reports that a deal is close, we’ve been forced to suspend betting on Mikel Arteta taking over as the Arsenal manager.
“The Spaniard will have learnt plenty from his time under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and it looks as if he is now ready to take the step into management with the Arsenal board viewing the former Gunners’ midfielder as the perfect replacement for Arsene Wenger."
