Pardew: Carroll not for sale

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has told Tottenham not to bother putting together a £30million bid for striker Andy Carroll.

The 22-year-old was in the stands at the Stadium of Light to watch the Magpies' 1-1 draw with Sunderland as he continued his recovery from a thigh injury. He arrived on Wearside after waking to see reports that the North London club are ready to step up their bid to sign him during the remaining two weeks of the transfer window.

Speaking after the game, Pardew said: "They can put together whatever they like. He is not for sale. I am going to say it one last time, he is not for sale."

The two sides meet at St James' Park next Saturday, and Pardew is hopeful that Carroll will be fit to line up against his suitors.

He said: "I hope so. He was certainly smarting in the dressing room wanting to play."

Asked if he was tempted, Pardew said with a smile: "No, not with one leg, no. I think that would have been a bit harsh on the other strikers."
