Red hot Pool hit City with early warning
Liverpool 4-1 Norwich
Liverpool blasted out an early message to Premier League champions Manchester City with a convincing 4-1 win over Norwich City at Anfield last night.
Jurgen Klopp's men stormed into a 4-0 lead by half-time and last season's Championship winners had to settle for a consolation strike after the break.
The only concern for the Reds was a calf injury to goalkeeper Alisson which saw him replaced by summer signing Adrian.
A Grant Hanley own goal opened the scoring and Liverpool doubled their lead when last season's top scorer Mohamed Salah applied an assured finish. The game was less than half an hour old when Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk scored the third. Divock Origi headed in the fourth just before the break.
Norwich were rewarded for not giving up as Teemu Pukki made it 4-1 just after the hour.
VAR was used for the first time in the Premier League but the start of the second half was delayed as assistant referee Simon Bennett encountered problems with his headset.
Manchester City begin their title defence at West Ham today (12.30pm).
