Redknapp lauds Rodgers
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was full of praise for Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers following the Barclays Premier League match between the two sides on Sunday.
Redknapp's Spurs side ran out 3-1 winners at White Hart Lane thanks to a strike from Rafael van der Vaart and two Emmanuel Adebayor headers but Swansea played football in the manner which has earned them plaudits all season.
Redknapp said: "I'm a big fan of his. I think he is fantastic. Not just now, young Frank [Lampard] worked with him at Chelsea and spoke so highly of him."
He added: "Frank [Lampard] Senior worked with him at Watford and then went to Reading with him and he used to tell me how good he was. He is spot on I think, you have got to look at the way he has got them playing. I think it is fantastic, I really do."
Rodgers has spent very little money in building a team praised for their easy-on-the-eye style and has guided the Swans to 11th with seven games remaining.
Redknapp was impressed with Rodgers, especially as he has achieved such feats with unfancied players.
"I can't speak highly enough of the job he has done there," he said. "He has got players playing that have come from Torquay, they have come from Stockport County, they have come from everywhere. They play, they pass the ball and they take risks on the ball.
"You look at their record this year and the way they have played and the way they have gone about playing. If we could get youth teams playing that way I think the game would be a much better game and we would produce better technical players."
Rodgers himself has played down speculation linking him to a managerial job at a bigger club after he was rumoured to be on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's shortlist before seemingly heading the queue to replace Redknapp should he leave Spurs for the England job.
The former Reading boss, whose side were level just before the hour mark through Gylfi Sigurdsson, was delighted with the efforts of his players, and said: "It was a wonderful game and for a team that has just been promoted up from the Championship to come here and actually play how these players have played is fantastic it and I'm proud of them."
