Royals ready to battle

Reading manager Brian McDermott has backed his side to overcome a partisan crowd in Cardiff tonight and book a place in the Championship play-off final.

The Royals were held to a goalless draw at the Madejski stadium in Friday's tense first leg and most observers have Cardiff as favourites to progress as a result.

McDermott - who made over 50 appearances for the Bluebirds in the late 1980s - believes his side have what it takes to edge the tie and head to Wembley.

He said: "There is a great atmosphere there, but I don't regard it as hostility.

"It will be a great atmosphere. When I was a player there we were playing in front of five or six thousand. Times have changed and it is one of the best grounds in the division now, but we have won at Anfield as a group so we have no fear."

Dave Jones' side were losers at Wembley last season as Blackpool gained entry to the Premier League and they will start in the box seat after restricting the Royals on Friday night.
