Tearing Sunderland apart: Paul Smyth hailed for Man of the Match performance for Accrington Stanley
Paul Smyth was named Man of the Match as he scored his first goal for Accrington Stanley on Friday evening.
The QPR forward joined the League One side on loan last month after penning a new contract at his parent club.
On a tricky trip to Sunderland and in front of the Sky Sports cameras, Smyth found the net, heading in Sean McConville's cross to put the visitors 2-0 up at the start of the second half. It's his first goal since April 2018.
He had also won the penalty for Stanley's opener, tucked home by former Northern Ireland U21 international Billy Kee.
However, they couldn't hold on as George Honeyman halved the deficit, scoring from Will Grigg's assist and setting the stage for Aiden McGeady to equalise and earn a 2-2 draw for the Black Cats
But it was Smyth was was named MOTM and dominated the social media reaction as he was hailed for his performance:
