Transfer deadline day: How manic day unfolded

All the twists and turns of transfer deadline day

Thursday was the final day of summer - and as is now tradition the day the Premier League transfer window slammed shut.

Northern Ireland defender Jonny Evans will not be moving this transfer window after Manchester City ended their interest in the 29-year-old.

The West Brom captain drew interest from City, Leicester and Arsenal but all three clubs refused to meet the Baggies' £30 million estimation of the Newtownabbey man and he will stay at The Hawthorns.

Earlier it was reported that centre-back Virgil van Dijk was on his way to Liverpool, however Southampton have said their captain is not for sale and will stay at the club until at least January. Liverpool have agreed a loan deal that sent striker Divock Origi to Wolfsburg.

Another player not on the move is Arsenal winger Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean was also linked to Manchester City, who offered £55 million, but the Gunners refused to sell Sanchez after a £92 million deal for Monaco's Thomas Lemar fell through. Sanchez is out of contract at the end of the season when he will be available on a free transfer.

However Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one who has left Arsenal, joining Premier League rivals Liverpool for £35 million, the biggest deal of deadline day.
