Van Dijk to Liverpool latest while Manchester City meet Messi's father

Now that Liverpool have secured Champions League football, they could finally be set to get to work on arrivals at the club, according to the rumour mill.

The Anfield club have, of course, been long-term admirers of Southampton centre-back VIRGIL VAN DIJK and one twitter account is giving supporters hope that victory over Hoffenheim could be the catalyst to see the deal come to fruition.

Indykaila News, known for posting transfer rumours, tweeted yesterday that "Virgil van Dijk is close" and that Liverpool's spot in the group-stages would lead to "major movement on Thursday/Friday".

Meanwhile, Manchester City have met with LIONEL MESSI's father about a potential sensational move to the Premier League club, the Sun are reporting.

The paper claim City director of football Txiki Begiristain met with Jorge Messi about a possible move to the Etihad Stadium for his striker son.

Another global star of the game could be on the move, with Spanish newspaper El Pais claiming that CRISTIANO RONALDO is unhappy again at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo is currently serving a five-game ban and could reportedly leave the Bernabeu by the end of the week.

The Daily Telegraph are reporting that Chelsea have upped their pursuit of ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN, making a new £35million bid. The Blues are also ready to pay £32m for Leicester's DANNY DRINKWATER, claim the Sun.

JONNY EVANS' protracted move to Manchester City could soon happen, according to the Mirror, who say West Brom will get £30m.
