PSG receive Neymar boost as scan reveals promising progress following injury

The Brazil forward could play again this season after a follow-up scan showed his recovery from injury is on track.

Neymar is on course to play again for Paris St Germain this season after the club received a positive update on his foot injury.

The Brazil forward has not featured since suffering a fractured metatarsal and sprained ankle in the win over Marseille on February 25, meaning he missed both legs of PSG’s Champions League elimination by Real Madrid.

After undergoing a successful operation in early March he has been recovering in his homeland, where he underwent a scheduled follow-up scan on Thursday which revealed that his recovery was on schedule.

Coach Unai Emery shared encouraging news at a press conference on Friday as he previewed Sunday’s clash with Monaco.

In quotes reported on the club’s Twitter feed, Emery said: “Neymar is close to a return after the latest tests.

“He could possibly play in the final matches of the season. We will work towards that.”

PSG have either seven or eight games remaining this season, depending on the result of their Coupe de France semi-final against Caen, and Neymar will be keen to return to action ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

The on-loan Kylian Mbappe is a doubt due to illness for Sunday’s meeting with his parent club. Emery revealed that Mbappe, who tormented Monaco in March’s Coupe de la Ligue final, has not trained for the last two days.
