Former Shamrock striker Karl Sheppard has agreed terms on a deal at Reading, the club have confirmed.

The Ireland Under-21 international has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year contract at the Madejski Stadium, keeping him with the Royals until the summer of 2014, subject to Football League ratification and international clearance.

Sheppard joins on a free transfer after his deal with Shamrock expired, and Reading have fought off competition from a number of other npower Championship clubs for his signature.

The 20-year-old trained with his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday as he looks to up his match fitness before fighting for a place in manager Brian McDermott's promotion-chasing side.
