Bobby Burns has only been at Hearts for a couple of months but has already worked his way into Craig Levein's starting line-up.

The former Glenavon star made the starting line-up at central midfield and played 90 minutes in the Betfred Cup tie at Cove Rangers as Hearts won 2-1. Kyle Lafferty started the game while fellow NI player Michael Smith came off the bench.

Burns, 18, made the transfer to the Edinburgh side at the start of May and back then said his immediate aim was to work his way into the Scottish Premiership side's first team panel. Not only has he done that, but he's already bagged a place on the pitch.

It's largely down to his impressive pre-season performances, which culminated in an outstanding display at Forfar Athletic on Saturday. Burns assisted two of his side's goals in a 5-1 drubbing, catching the eye of coach Jon Daly.

“He has played at left-back a fair bit before,” Daly told the Evening News. “We utilised him at left wing-back and I thought he was different class. He is very comfortable in midfield or out on the left. It’s obviously a good thing for him that the manager can play him in two positions."
