Celtic keen on Premier League trio while Rangers face transfer tussle for Scottish midfielder: Old Firm transfer rumours

Celtic have been linked with as many as three Premier League players as the January transfer rumours gather pace.

First of all, Brendan Rodgers' side are keen on bringing in Swansea defender ALFIE MAWSON, according to Wales Online. The 23-year-old, however, is in big demand. The same report links Premier League sides Everton and West Ham with the player, the latter said to be ready to offer up to £25 million. And as if that wasn't enough competition for the Hoops, Sky Sports claim that Watford are also interested in the England U21 international.

"Whatever happens, happens," Mawson stold Sky Sports in reply to the rumours. "If offers come in then that is nothing to do with me. All I can do is affect my performances. I'm a Swansea player and I want to do well here. It is flattering to hear certain things but I have got to do what I can for this club. I'm contracted for another two-and-a-half years after this."

Also linked with a potential move to Celtic Park is former Liverpool midfielder JOE ALLEN. The Stoke City star could be set to join up with Brendan Rodgers once more, although that rumour on glasgowlive.co.uk is based on little more than betting odds that are now back up to 8/1. Goal.com, however, have claimed that Rodgers, who managed Allen at Swansea and Liverpool, has made the Welshman one of his top targets. West Ham had been rumoured to be willing to pay £15million to land the player but Stoke City are thought to be unwilling to sell.

Celtic have already added to their defensive options this month through the signing of Marvin Compper but with Jozo Simunovic linked with a potential move to Crystal Palace (Daily Record), the Sun have claimed that the Hoops are 'leading chase' to sign Newcastle United's CHANCEL MBEMBA. The 23-year-old is also being linked with a move back to former club Anderlecht.

All three of those rumours admittedly seem long shots. How realistic is the latest rumour of a move for KIERAN TIERNEY? The International Business Times reckons Manchester United could make a move for the full-back if they fail to bring in Tottenham's DANNY ROSE.

Meanwhile, over at Rangers, the club reportedly face a battle for Scottish midfielder KEVIN MCDONALD. The 29-year-old is a target for the Gers as well as Sheffield United and Middlesbrough, according to the Sun. The report claims the Fulham man, who has yet to receive a full Scotland cap, would cost around £1.5 million.
