Brendan Rodgers sets his sights on a silver lining

By Graham Luney

Brendan Rodgers is agonisingly close to landing the first piece of silverware in his managerial career and he's called on his Celtic players to finish the job.

The Hoops sealed a deserved 1-0 League Cup semi-final win over Rangers at Hampden Park to set up a final showdown final against Aberdeen on Sunday, November 27.

Moussa Dembele's 87th-minute goal, created by substitute Leigh Griffiths, claimed the Old Firm bragging rights.

"In order to rubber stamp that [development], you want to get trophies," said the Ulsterman.

"There are areas I want to improve in over time, but the players are performing magnificently well, they have that hunger to succeed and they're playing the game at a real top-level tempo, with and without the ball.

"We can concentrate on the final in a couple of weeks' time, but the win over Rangers was a great performance, deserving of getting to a final."
