Davis targets Rangers double

By Mark McIntosh

Steven Davis last night set his sights on a Rangers double after ending Celtic's treble dream.

The SPL champions saw off their Old Firm rivals to claim the first silverware of the season at Hampden Park yesterday, thanks to a 2-1 extra-time victory in the Co-Operative Insurnace Cup Final.

Northern Ireland star Davis got the ball rolling with the opening goal on 23 minutes before Joe Ledley levelled.

But back came the Gers and Ibrox boss Walter Smith ended his last showpiece final on the winning side thanks to Nikica Jelavic's strike.

Now Davis insists the win can be the platform for a title push.

“Winning the first trophy of the season was all that mattered; there's no doubt it will give us a psychological boost for the title run-in,” said Man-of-the-Match Davis.

“We know the remaining Old Firm game will be another massive test, but we showed we have what it takes to beat Celtic.

“The title is firmly in our minds. Celtic have the points on the board, but we are determined to see the manager retire in style with a third title on the bounce.”
