Gerrard's Ibrox reign off to flyer with Bury demolition

By Andy Newport

Rangers strolled to a 6-0 victory over Bury as the Steven Gerrard era started with a bang.

The Liverpool legend took charge of his first Ibrox match and named six of his summer signings in the starting 11 as Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Jon Flanagan, Scott Arfield and Jamie Murphy made a real impact.

Rangers opened the scoring through Murphy before a long-range strike from new boy Katic made it 2-0. Arfield goals either side of half-time made it 4-0 before Alfredo Morelos got the goal he was craving.

Changes were made and Zak Rudden replaced the Colombian up front and within a minute got the sixth.

The impressive Glenn Middleton raced down the left to set up his second goal of the night and it was a comfortable win but tougher tests are on the horizon.

Meanwhile in the Danske Bank Premiership, Glenavon have completed the signing of former Carrick Rangers captain Aaron Harmon.
