Hartson: I will help Kyle beat gambling demons

By Graham Luney

Former Celtic hero John Hartson has vowed to help Kyle Lafferty banish his gambling demons.

Northern Ireland international Lafferty has admitted he has a gambling addiction but he can now count on the support of Hoops old boy Hartson, who was haunted by the same problem earlier in his life.

Former Rangers striker Lafferty sought Hartson's advice before going public with his troubles and the Welshman has promised to help the Fermanagh man tackle his betting woes.

"All I would say is that the lad needs a bit of help. The boy is in a little disarray with his problems," said Hartson, who once ran up huge debts with bookies.

"Six years ago when I first went to try and get help with my problems, there was lots of help there for me.

"The boy needs my help and I'm going to do my utmost to help him, irrespective of what team he plays for, where he comes from or what he does.

"He's approached me, he wants my help and I'm going to give it to him.

"It doesn't matter what relationship he has with certain fans - he needs my help."
