Rangers and Celtic say they are ready for a Scottish Premiership title showdown on Saturday after crucial wins yesterday.

Neil Lennon's Hoops head to Ibrox 16 points behind Rangers with three games in hand, so there's no doubting the huge importance of the derby (12.30pm).

Rangers retained their significant lead by avoiding a repeat of their League Cup defeat to St Mirren with a 2-0 away win thanks to first-half strikes from Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos. Celtic warmed up for the Old Firm derby with a 3-0 home win over Dundee United.

Ismaila Soro opened his account for the champions, with David Turnbull and Odsonne Edouard also on target but defender Christopher Jullien suffered a knee injury.

"We played brilliantly and created a lot of good chances," said former Northern Ireland international Lennon. "Our confidence is good but we're not getting carried away. Rangers is a tough game and they are in good form. It's a great challenge for us."

Gers boss Steven Gerrard said: "We asked the players to own the pitch and to see if we can get back to keeping clean sheets on the bounce and we've delivered that. We're happy and we move into the weekend in a good place."
