Rangers defender set for St Mirren switch while Tottenham eye key Celtic star: Old Firm transfer rumours
Rangers and Celtic could see players leaving the club, according to the latest transfer rumours.
First up is Northern Ireland international Lee Hodson, closing in on a move away from Rangers. Hodson started just five league matches last season and after Gerrard's summer moves for full-backs Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic, Hodson is heading on a season-long loan to newly promoted St Mirren in search of regular football. The 26-year-old is said to have been told that he can leave the club by manager Steven Gerrard. The move will no doubt be welcomed by Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill, who has been frustrated by a lack of playing time for several members of his panel.
Rangers' move to Kyle Lafferty is still in the pipeline with the club still locked in talks with Hearts over the transfer of the NI striker. Former Celtic striker Scott McDonald even says that a medical has been 'lined up' at the Ibrox club.
One forward not moving to Ibrox is Liverpool's Dominic Solanke. The former Chelsea ace had been linked with a loan move to Ibrox this summer but, asked about the deal over the weekend, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp laughed it off: "I'm hearing about it for the first time now, so it doesn't seem like it's close," he said.
Over at Celtic, another full-back could be on his way as Kieran Tierney is reportedly a target for Tottenham. The Scotland international was slapped with a £25m asking price this summer, putting off the London club. Now the Express report Tottenham could make a cut-price £10m move in January as the Hoops look to recoup the lost revenue after failing to make the Champions League group stage.
