Another day and another turn of the Old Firm rumour mill has both Glasgow clubs linked with moves for players south of the border.

First up, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is keen to land the signing of Newcastle United winger Alex Gilliead, according to the Chronicle. The Gers could even land the 22-year-old on a free as his contract at St James' Park has expired and he has not been offered a new deal on Tyneside. The former England U17 international is, however, also attracting interest from England's lower leagues.

Gilliead, from Durham, hasn't made a senior appearance for the Magpies but has plenty of experience, racking up over 120 senior games during loan spells at Carlisle United, Luton Town and most recently Bradford City, where he spent the last 18 months, scoring twice.

Over at Celtic Park, the Hoops are keen on adding Wigan right-back Nathan Byrne to their panel, according to Football Insider. The report claims the 26-year-old, a regular starter during the Latics' League One winning season, is high on Brendan Rodgers' wanted list, having ended his interest in former Hull City full-back Moses Odubajo. The Daily Record reports that the 24-year-old has left Celtic's training camp, which he had been invited to, and has instead begun training with old club Brentford.

Odubajo had been in talks with the club according to yesterday's rumours, which also tipped Celtic and Rangers to do battle over a couple of big signings.
