Rangers set to secure double signing as Celtic target former Manchester United midfielder: Old Firm transfer rumours

Familiar faces: Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers will pit their wits against each other this season.

Rangers could could be set to announce their 13th and 14th signings of the summer, according to the latest transfer rumours.

Steven Gerrard completed the capture of Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty last week, taking his total recruits to 12 and is now said to be closing in on another two.

The first is Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall. A loan deal could be completed within 24 hours, claims the Daily Record, after Gerrard personally assured Worrall's parent club that he would get regular game-time at Ibrox. Forest had previously been understood to prefer a move to a fellow Championship club. Worrall is a former England U18 captain and has been a key part of the England U21 side in their qualifying campaign for next year's UEFA U21 Championships. Worrall started 28 Championship games last season but has yet to be involved in a first-team squad this term after the club spent £20m on summer recruits.

By the time he arrives at Rangers, a deal for NK Osijek's Eros Grezda could already be done. The winger has arrived in Glasgow ahead of a medical and a £2m move, according to the Scottish Sun. The two clubs, of course, met in Europa League qualification earlier this summer and have already been engaged in transfer business, Gerrard swooping to sign Osijek's Croatian full-back Borsa Barisic. Grezda, 23, has six caps for Albania and arrived at Osijek last summer from Lokomotiva Zagreb.

Meanwhile, Celtic have been linked with a former Manchester United prospect. That's Nick Powell, who has netted three Championship goals in five appearances for Wigan so far this season. Celtic, Leeds, Aston Villa, West Brom and Stoke are all thought to be interested but report that Middlesbrough are confident they will win the race. Powell left United to join the Latics two years ago.

Perhaps a more realistic midfield target is yet another of Manchester City's up-and-coming young players. The club have already landed Daniel Arzani on loan this summer and have also brought in Jason Denayer and Patrick Roberts on temporary deals from City in recent seasons. Soon to be added to that list could be Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian is set to go out on loan after being refused a work permit for the Premier League. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan in La Liga with Girona and now Celtic are among the clubs interested on securing his services on a 12-month deal, according to the Scottish Sun.
