Chris Sutton slams 'fantasy land' Kyle Lafferty for 'laughable' Rangers title talk
Chris Sutton has slammed Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty for talking up his side's chances of securing a 55th Scottish league title this season.
Three weeks after signing for Rangers, Lafferty faced the press ahead of Northern Ireland's games against Bosnia & Herzegovinia and Israel.
He tipped Gers boss Steven Gerrard to become the 'next big thing' in management but the claim that riled Sutton was Lafferty's point that "everyone in the Rangers dressing room believes that we’ll get 55 and that this will be the year we’ll win the league."

With Rangers seven points off the Premiership pace, former Celtic striker Sutton replied by branding Lafferty's quotes 'laughable' and called the striker's performance in last weekend's Old Firm derby 'hopeless'.
"It’s not exactly a surprise to see Lafferty is the one to open his mouth and let his belly rumble, and, sure enough, he heads back to Northern Ireland and can’t help himself when it comes to making wild claims," Sutton wrote in the Daily Record.
Sutton likened the quotes to Joey Barton's admission that he had joined Rangers to 'win the league' back in the summer of 2016.
"How did that turn out again? Barton was long gone by the time Mark Warburton’s side finished a million miles behind Celtic," he continued.
Sutton said that Lafferty's quotes will only serve to 'pile more pressure' on Rangers.
"There’s nothing wrong with having belief, or even quiet confidence in the dressing room, but coming away with these comments in public only leave you wide open again," he wrote.
"Had Steven Gerrard’s side won last week (against Celtic), got a draw or even put up some kind of contest, then you could argue he’d be entitled to the title talk.
"But they didn’t. They got hammered. Lafferty might be living in a fantasy land but back in the real world his side got their backsides kicked."
Sutton went on to say that Rangers deserved credit for progress made under Gerrard and for making it through to the Europa League group stage.
During the summer, Sutton had warned Rangers off signing Lafferty.
But the former Celtic star went on to praise the striker for his performance against Motherwell, when he scored twice.
