Rangers announce EIGHTH summer signing and hopeful of another before European deadline
Rangers have confirmed the signing of Lassana Coulibaly on a season-long loan from Angers.
The 22-year-old midfielder is the eighth signing of the summer window for new manager Steven Gerrard, subject to international clearance.
Coulibaly, a Mali international, could still be added to Gerrard's Europa League squad with Gers set to begin their qualifying campaign on Thursday night against Macedonian side Shkupi.
He follows the signings of centre-backs Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic, right-back Jon Flanagan, wingers Jamie Murphy and Scott Arfield, goalkeeper Allan McGregor and midfielder Ovie Ejaria (loan).
Coulibaly may be followed through the entrance at Ibrox very soon with the club said to be confident of securing a season-long loan move for Roma forward Umar Sadiq. He must be registered 24 hours before Thursday's Europa League first leg tie at home to Shkupi if he is to be available for the Gers' first competitive games of the season. The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at NAC Breda in the Eredivisie, in which he netted five goals.
Coulibaly is excited to play under Gerrard but admitted he was not sure if it was a joke or not.
He told Rangers TV: "It was not easy but when my agent said Gerrard is the head coach, I said okay no problem and was happy to come in.
"He can help me to develop. When they asked me if I want to join this team or not, I said yes but I thought it might not really be Gerrard!"
