Rangers to play two friendlies in Northern Ireland this summer

When and where you can get tickets to see the club's 'stars of the future'

Glasgow Rangers will be in Northern Ireland this summer and will play friendly matches against Ards and Portadown.

First up, a Rangers XI will take to the pitch at the Bangor Fuels Arena to face Ards on Tuesday July 18 (kick-off 7.30pm).

Then the side, which will be made up of the Gers' Under 20 panel and some first team fringe players, will face Portadown at Shamrock Park on Saturday July 22.

The Rangers team will be managed by Graeme Murty, who recently served as interim boss before the appointment of Pedro Caixinha, and is the head coach of the club's development squad.

“At Ibrox, there is a big focus on youth development and many of these players are earmarked for big things, so fans will get the opportunity to see some stars of the future in action," said Phil Cowan, Rangers Community Football Executive based in Northern Ireland.

Ards are also hoping local fans attending the games will catch the bug for Irish League football.

“We had a fantastic season last year, finishing eighth in the Danske Bank Premiership," said their Vice-Chairman Warren Patton.

“We are determined to attract more people to our games, and this game is a great opportunity for people who might not normally attend an Irish League game to see Ards in action.”

Portadown chairman Ronnie Stinson also hoped the game could entice new supporters to the recently-relegated club.

He said: “This summer is a clean start for Portadown in many ways after such a tough time and it is exciting to have a club the size of Rangers work with us towards putting on this friendly.

“It is a boost for the club but also a chance to reach out beyond our normal fanbase given Rangers’ popularity in the country and area.

“We are looking forward to having the gates open to fans beyond our own traditional support and to get them connected to the Ports.”

Tickets both both matches will be priced at £10 for adults and £5 concession.

Tickets for the Ards game are already on sale and can be bought from Patton's Bakery - Donaghadee, Maxol - Portavogie, Maxol - Newtownards, Tower Inn - Newtownards, Ards FC Sports Club - Newtownards, Sportsbeat - Newtownards
