Stoke leading race to land Paddy McNair after matching Boro's £5m offer

By Staff Reporter

Stoke City have moved into pole position to sign Northern Ireland international Paddy McNair.

The Ballyclare man wants to leave Sunderland, who have dropped into League One, and now Stoke - just relegated from the Premier League - have entered the race for his signature.

Middlesbrough's bid of £5m has now been matched by The Potters and it appears that Boro have given up the chase.

Premier League clubs may yet make a move but Stoke are hungry to add quality to their squad.

Meanwhile, Linfield Ladies have been drawn alongside Dutch giants Ajax in the Champions League qualifying stage.

They will meet Ajax, along with Icelandic side Thor/KA and Wexford Youths, in the four-team group stages that will be held in Belfast at Seaview in August.

Ajax are favourites to win the group and reach the last-32.
