Strasser’s medical emergency against Darmstadt not heart attack – Kaiserslautern

Strasser left the ground in an ambulance but a heart attack has been ruled out.

Kaiserslautern have announced head coach Jeff Strasser’s medical emergency during Wednesday’s game against Darmstadt was not a heart attack.

The game was abandoned at half-time with the score at 0-0 after Strasser left the ground in an ambulance. Both sets of fans applauded, chanted Strasser’s name and sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as he departed.

A statement on Kaiserslautern’s website on Thursday read: “After initial examinations at the hospital in Darmstadt, a heart attack can be ruled out. More cardiological examinations will be carried out today to enable a clear diagnosis.

“Training will initially be led by assistant coach Alexander Bugera. It is not yet determined who will act as head coach for the home game against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday.”

The date and arrangements for the rescheduled game with Darmstadt is still to be decided.
