If there's one way to cement your place as a fan favourite at the end of your first season at a new club, a hat-trick to clinch a five-goal game isn't a bad way to do it.

At 2-1 behind and down to 10 men at the break, the bookies would have suggested that Oxford United were on their way to defeat to Shrewsbury Town.

Step up Gavin Whyte.

The former Crusaders winger bagged an equaliser to add to his early opening goal and went on to complete the comeback win with the use of his blistering pace and fine finishing.

The goals take his tally to nine for the season at the League One club - a healthy return on his first season in full-time football.
