Leicester star Riyad Mahrez has reportedly put in a transfer request after emerging as a target for Manchester City on the eve of the transfer deadline.
Press Association Sport understands City are interested in the Algeria international and Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that Mahrez had asked to leave the Foxes.
But any deal for the 2016 PFA Player of the Year would not be cheap. Leicester do not feel they need to sell their prize asset and it would take a fee in excess of the £75million Liverpool recently paid for Virgil van Dijk to even consider it.
Olivier Giroud was named on Arsenal’s bench against Swansea on Tuesday night despite reports suggesting the France striker has agreed an £18million move to Chelsea.
Giroud’s future appeared increasingly likely to lie away from Arsenal after reports that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had arrived at the club’s training ground on Tuesday afternoon to finalise his transfer from Borussia Dortmund, who are determined to land a replacement before allowing the striker to leave.
Chelsea are favourites to sign Giroud on Wednesday, while their Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi is reported to be heading to Dortmund to complete the triangle.
Manchester City were extremely busy on Tuesday, signing defender Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in a reported £57million deal before bringing in English midfielder Jack Harrison from sister club New York City.
Harrison joined City on a three-and-a-half-year deal before heading straight out on loan to Championship side Middlesbrough for the rest of the season.
Watford have signed Belgium Under-21s winger Dodi Lukebakio on a four-and-a-half-year deal and allowed Mauro Zarate to join Velez Sarsfield on loan until the end of the season.
Meanwhile Leicester forward Ahmed Musa has rejoined CSKA Moscow on loan for the rest of the season.
Arsenal will miss out on Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar.
The Ligue 1 champions’ vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has reiterated that the France international – also a reported target for Liverpool – is not for sale this month.
“He will stay at Monaco until the end of the season 100 per cent,” Vasilyev told French radio station RMC. “If Liverpool or Arsenal come with a big offer before the end of the market? This is not relevant.”
Southampton’s attempts to sign forward Quincy Promes are being met by resistance from Spartak Moscow, Press Association Sport understands.
Former Barcelona forward Samuel Eto’o has left Turkish club Antalyaspor by mutual agreement.
