Villa to offer Grealish new deal after rejecting Tottenham bids

The midfielder is expected to stay at Aston Villa this summer.

Aston Villa will offer Jack Grealish a new contract with the club confident he will remain their player beyond the transfer deadline.

The club have rejected offers from Tottenham this summer leaving the midfielder disappointed at not being able to move to White Hart Lane.

But Press Association Sport understands Grealish will be handed an improved contract to reflect his importance to the club.

He has two years left on his current deal but a new contract is expected to be wrapped up in the next few weeks.

Grealish will not rock the boat at Villa Park and demand a move despite his desire to speak to Tottenham.

Spurs’ opening offer of £3million plus Josh Onomah – who spent last season at Villa – was rejected and while they got close to the £25million asking price, Villa eventually told them Grealish was not for sale.

The initial low offer strengthened Villa’s resolve to keep their 22-year-old star.

Boss Steve Bruce expected to lose Grealish because of Villa’s cash crisis before fresh investment last month.

Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens bought a 55 per cent stake in the club to stave off the threat of administration after Villa lost the play-off final 1-0 to Fulham in May.

It changed the financial landscape for Villa and they are also due to keep skipper James Chester who pledged his future to the club last month despite interest from Stoke.

Villa still need to resolve concerns with Financial Fair Play however and need to find around £40million to comply with regulations.

They signed Hibernian midfielder John McGinn on Wednesday for around £2.75million with potential add-ons.

But a move for Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan has been hijacked by Fulham despite the defender holding talks with Villa.
