Saudi Arabia's footballers have been viciously torn apart by members of their own Royal Family after their humiliation in the opening game of the World Cup.

The Saudis were humbled 5-0 by host nation Russia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, with many questioning whether this team might be the worst to compete at a World Cup.

Things won't get any easier for them either, with games against Luis Suarez's Uruguay and Mohamed Salah's Egypt to follow.

And Prince Turki al-Sheikh, the Saudi Arabian sports chief, did not hold back in his brutal assessment of the team's performance.

“These players have made my face go black with embarrassment and fury," al-Sheikh fumed. “This is down to their weak potential and ability.

“We did everything for this team and this generation of players, everything. We brought them the best technical support, a team of the highest level and we paid them for three years.

“But now we see they have limited capabilities. They have achieved just five per cent of what is expected and required of them.”
