Donegal have suffered a major blow just days after their Ulster title win over Fermanagh as Paddy McBrearty has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Kilcar forward, who was one of their key men up front, went for a scan yesterday which confirmed he has a torn ACL which will require surgery.

McBrearty had started the win over Fermanagh in Clones, however he was forced off early in the second half with the injury.

He's a massive loss for Declan Bonner and Donegal, who are set to begin their Super 8s campaign against defending All-Ireland champions Dublin on July 15.

Regardless of who steps into his spot in the line-up, McBrearty's production and performances will be hard to replicate, and this puts a serious dent in their Sam Maguire hopes.
