All Ireland Qualifiers: Carr gives no excuses for Cavan humiliation at hands of Cork

Cork 1-19 Cavan 0-04: Cavan manager Tommy Carr was refusing to comment on his future immediately after seeing his side lose to Cork by 18 points at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday afternoon.

“I’ve just discussed it with the chairman, we’re not making any announcements like that,” he said.

“I think it was no great secret that there was big gulf in talent.”

From the moment Ciarán Sheehan put Cork ahead after 25 seconds, Cork always led and had increased their tally to nine before Cian Mackey opened Cavan’s account as the first half moved into injury time.

Two Daniel Goulding frees and one from Colm O’Neill at the start of the second half solidified Cork’s lead to 0-12 to 0-1 and when Cavan’s Garret Smith was sent off in the 41st minute for a second booking, any hopes the visitors had of turning the game surely went.

If not then, then they definitely died 10 minutes later when Pearse O’Neill scored a goal for Cork to make it 1-15 to 0-2.

To Cavan’s credit, they never gave up but it just would not happen for them, two points from Ronan Flanagan all they could garner during a 12-minute spell when Cork didn’t score, and four points in a row from Cork wrapped things up.
