Allen backs out of Limerick run

John Allen has ruled himself out of the running to become the next Limerick hurling manager.

The former Cork boss was one of nine nominations received by the Limerick county board before last Friday evening's deadline, but he has decided not to allow his name to go forward.

Justin McCarthy, who has just completed a controversial two-year term in charge, has been nominated for the post, along with outgoing selector John Tuohy, former Limerick players Gary Kirby, Ciaran Carey and TJ Ryan, ex-manager Dave Keane, this year's under-21 boss Leo O'Connor and Val Murnane.
