Saffrons still looking up following narrow victory
NFL Division 4: Antrim 1-10 - Wicklow 0-12
Antrim's promotion push remains on track as the Saffrons held on for a one point win over Wicklow at a wet and windy Corrigan Park in Belfast yesterday.
The hosts looked a little jittery early on and found themselves on the back foot as Wicklow had moved 0-6 to 0-1 ahead by the 23rd minute with Dean Odlum and John McGrath hitting two apiece. Conor Murray got Antrim's first from play after 25 minutes and this seemed to settle the hosts who had cut the gap to one - 0-6 to 0-5 - at the break thanks to frees from Conor McGourty (two) and Michael Pollock.
The second half was nip and tuck with McGrath and Odlum pointing for Wicklow while McGourty and Pollock kept the board ticking over for Antrim who then led by 0-10 to 0-9 when the crucial score arrived on 57 minutes as McGourty slid in at the back post to turn the ball into the net.
Wicklow were not done and points from Darren Hayden and McGrath (two) made it a one point game by the 69th minute, but Antrim held on for a vital win.
