Classy Loye inspires Armagh to flourish

Armagh 2-13 Down 0-12

By Staff Reporter

Armagh produced an explosive finishing burst to reach the Ulster U21 Football Championship semi-finals at the expense of Down at the Athletic Grounds. Shea Loye proved the Orchard County hero, bagging 2-7 in a man of the match performance. His accuracy sustained Armagh's momentum in the first half, his early brace of points being followed by three more.

Down failed to make their shots count. Even though they enjoyed possession, Conor Deegan's side could only muster five points before the break, three from frees.

Tiarnan Rushe and Ronan Millar carried the biggest threat in the visitors' attack, the former pocketing three points (two frees) while Millar and Ryan Trainor added their team's other scores.

Loye touched home Armagh's first goal in the 55th minute after Down had hit six unanswered points, and he rifled in his second and a point in the closing minutes.

Armagh scorers: S Loye 2-7 (5f), T O'Kane 0-2, B Crealy 0-1, S Hoey 0-1, C McConville 0-1, S Morris 0-1,

Down scorers: R Millar 0-5 (4f), T Rushe 0-3 (2f), R Trainor 0-2, P McCrickard 0-2
